noise when in 4 wheel drive
I have a 1995 F150, 5.0, E40D tranny, electric 4x4 botton on dash. I f I lock in the front hubs and drive no noise. If hubs are in free position and I press 4x4 botton no noise, but when hubs are locked and I press 4x4 botton I get a humming noise the gets louder the faster I go. It almost has the same sound as a tranny in first gear. Two ?s I changed both front axle U joints I forgot to mark the position of the pass. side axle. But the inner and outer axle u joints seemed to be lined up. is that ok or is there a special way to line up that axle? question #2. Sombody told me to check the fluid in the transfer case. The fluid should be filled up to the bottom of the filler hole. When I took out the filler plug the fluid came pouring out. The filler plug is the one that is about half way up on the case ? I guess about 2 quarts came out or more, how is that possible? The fluid is just to the bottom of the filler hole know. Tried driving again same noise. Any ideas? Thanks
