302 Offroad buildup

My family and I are starting to build a 302 from the bottom up. Can someone give me an idea of what parts, bore, etc.... I should put in this thing for low end power and torque. Maybe a cam comparison, pistons, heads etc...etc....
Kind of new to this, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

If it needs to be bored stick to .030 over. Keith Black makes some good pistons for the price. Keep your compression around 9:1. You can go a little higher but you might have to run preimum gas. A cleaned up set of E7 heads would work fine for an engine that probably won't rev above 5,000 rpm.
Still need to know if it's EFI or carb.
Settle all the above then call comp cams with what your running. They get you the cam you need.

Its going into a Bronco II. I have heard about Keith Black pistons from a few other people as well. Got a link to the CompCams?
Carb vs EFI ... I am going to stay with Carb.
The truck will be used for trail riding and mudding...RPM's should not get over 5K, IT will do no Highway driving at all...put it on a trailer this winter and have rebuilt the front end as well as the rear.

Anyway...302, carb, low end power and torque. for use on trails. Thanks for the information so far.

i would look deep into the wallet to determine what you want/need. if you need torque---on a budget, id recommend doing a stroker. several companies offer rotating assemblies (crank, rods, pistons, and rings and bearings) for under$1000. my personal recommendation for budget minded torquey 302's would be a cast steel 3.25 stroke crank, cast i-beam rods in 5.4 length, with forged pistons---as close to standard bore as possible (ie +.010, or +.020) 302 blocks are fairly thin in cylinder walls...they are more likely to overheat the more you bore them. an alternative is to by a new stock block( i think summit racing still has some for around $390) either way this would yield about 327-331CI and still be somewhat happy with the stock heads. then a good valve job or ,better yet some slightly larger valves would make the package come to life and still give you good durability, increased torque and power, and keep you truckin for years to come.

i would hope your gonna swap out the front end and rear axle in the BII because putting this type of motor in there combined with some offroad fun equals lots of breakage

Very true. You might have an 8.8 rear. If not you should be able to score one from a ranger. For the front it's going to be a little harder. Maybe a D44 from a 66-77 bronco. The width should be close.
I like the weiand stealth for an intake. Carb a 550- 600 cfm is plenty. I run a 470 holley TA and run right up to 5800rpm without a problem.
For a distributor I went with a Mallory 1 wire HEI. Easy to setup. A duraspark setup would be cheaper though.
For comp cams just google comp cams. It will come up.

I think a 600 cfm is too big, for throttle response out of a torquey 302 in a truck, go 500....

Im not sure spending the money on a stroker for a 302 thats going in a BII is necessary, thats a small truck, and a lot of motor....sounds like fun!!

Id save the stroker kit money to improve the 302... heads perhaps?
