87 F250 (302) revs up when I hit the clutch

it is a 4 speed manual and whenever I go to shift, the rpms go up for about a second then go down, what is my problem?

could your foot be slightly on the gas at the time. i know when i shift in my car i tend to give a little blip of the throttle as im shifting.

no, that's not what it is, I check and double checked that. I'm sure that is not what it is.

Try cleaning and lubricating all your throttle linkages. They could be a little gummed up and with the cold weather everything could be a little sticky.

I had the same problem with an '85 F150 and with an '87 Bronco - a clean and lube solved it on both.

i thought about that, but why, when I throttle up when not in gear, does i act normal? Just trying to get this figured out. It's not really a huge deal even, but I am getting -2 mpg beause of it.

My truck does the same, I have noticed if I shut it off and restart it it acts normally, it won't rev up anymore until the truck sits a while, It beats me.
