PLEASE HELP: with my performance steps!!! for my 302
i recently purchased an 85 f250 with a carburated 302. it is all stock right now except for an edelbrock 600cfm carb. i am making the truck a stricktly mud runs truck only. i want to do any modifications i can without digging into the block. i was wondering what order to do the mods? cam, gears, headers, manifold, heads, distributor, coil, stall. i am planning on eventually doing most of these mods +, and i need to know which order i should do them? thanks!!!
A lot of it is personal preference but there are a few things that should be done together or in order.
I'd probably go with headers and exhaust first. The cam and the manifold will require digging into the engine a little, but these should be done at the same time or you're going to have to do some of all over again as the manifold has to come off to replace the lifters anyway, which have to be removed to pull the cam and have be replaced along with the cam. If you're going to put a high stall converter in, you'll need to do that either before you do the cam or at the same time or the truck may be undriveable depending on the cam you use.
When replacing the manifold it's easier to pull the dist. rather than work around it, so that would also be a good time to change that out.
The gears could be done practically anywhere along in there, but I'd probably do them last. (but then, that's me.)
thanks man, i don't mind the heads, i just don't want to dig into the block. i.e pistons/rings/rods etc. i'de rather start building a 460 in the mean time and spending the big money on that.
