If you can't find one, and have exhausted all other sources, let me know. I have a clean one here in Southern California that I will be getting rid of. Not sure how transporting would be handled though.

Thank you for replying, I sure would be interested. I live about 40 miles from Louisville, so I'm not that far from Ky.

To 46fordtruck, I would love to travel to CA. to purchase your chassis but its a little too far to travel from Indiana at least this time of year, however thanks for responding, hopefully the one from restoringmy46 will work out. I can't belive how difficult it is to find one in this area. I've been working on my 46 for about 7 years after I retired I hope to finish before I'm too old to drive it.

loholland, I live in Ashland,KY. It is about 3 1/2-4 hrs from Louisville, and adout a 1 1/2 from Lexington. We are building a 46 1/2 ton right know and a 48 waiting to be done. The truck I was talking about is or would be a good truck to build. BUT the guy who has it know cut the whole firewall out of it and didn't brace the cab anywhere when he done it. Now the doors don't line up at all and the cab has pulled apart down buy the floor b/c he cut the cab away from the floor to. He wanted to put a 289 in it and move the motor back he said, b/c the original motor mounts are still on the frame. Why this guy hacked this truck up like this is beyond me. It mad me alittle sick to see it like that. It was once a perfectly good truck to build but the cab is no good now. You'd just have to see it for youself to see where I'm coming from. Anyway the frame is good but it doesn't have the original rearend in it though, It has a ford 9 inch in it know. I'll call the guy today and see if I can get in touch with him. He works construction at ashland oil, so he works long hrs so it might be a day or two before he calls back. When I talked to his dad last he said it is better to call on the weekends. So it might be Saturday before I hear anything. One more thing you might consider is putting a 48-50 frame under it. I know where 3 of them are in Morehead KY that you could be cheap. They are 114" wheelbase just like the 46-47 trucks. If you would be interested in something like that then let me know and I'll call the guy who has them tonight and find something out for you. If you need anything eles I'll try to help you out.

Although not original, you an use a 67/72 frame.(the frame is the same width as the 42/7 trucks), I am installing a 47 ford cab/front ends, bed assembly on one now. The frame horns need to be cut off at the front to clear the front end, I am using the short wheel-base frame and everything is progressing nicely.
The ride height ends up about the same as a stock one also.

To restoringmy46,
Yea, it is a shame that guy cut up that perfectly good cab. I bought all new floor, toeboards, support posts, front cab corners and front cab mounts from Northern Classic Trucks and am in the process of cutting out and welding in the new pieces. Its a tough job. I had to brace the cab to keep it from twisting out of shape, plus I'm not the best welder in the world so its going slow.
It sound like the frame is still original. I don't need anything but the bare frame, as long as it hasn't been cut up and the all the cross members are still there. My old frame has had a front clip welded in. It looks like a 79-80 chevy truck. It makes the wheel base too wide and I'm not sure about the welding, it looks pretty sloppy. Im afraid the front sheetmetal will be too difficult to fit on it, along with the front core support. I had planned to put a Fat Man MII on the front but I would like a clean slate to start with, I have a 9" from a Mustang to go under the rear. I'm not sure about the 48-50 frames. From reading other Threads they say that they angle in in the front. Do you think there would be any problems?

To 46achers,
Thanks for your ideas, that could be an alternative if things don't work out with the orginal.
Did your 67-72 chassis have the twin I-beams and how did you handle that?

On my project I am using the 67 frame "as is", and yes it has the twin I-beam front end, big hang up is adapting a steering column to the 67 box.

If you are planning on using the Fat-Man front end, look into the 48/52 frames. From the middle of the cab rearwards they are identical, at the front the crossmember is "loge" and the frame is extended for the later bumpers. Afte boxing the frame and installing the F-M front end you can rework the front crossmember and shorten the frame horns.

Keep in mind by using the F-M front end that you will be lowering the truck quite a bit, in my case on the current project a ,47, it came "down" about 6" over "stock"

I think it would be alot easier on your part to find a 48-52 frame alot easier than a 46-47. If your going to put a F-MII front end on it then thats what I would look for b/c your going to cut the front of it off anyway. I thought you was wanting to make it all original frame truck. I will still try to get ahold of the guy for you on the 47 frame. But what I would do is look for a 48-52 around where you live or evan a 67-72 frame like 46achers said. The guy in Morehead, KY (his name is Russell) he has a 51 or 52 1/2 ton truck there with a good frame under it. Would you be interested in it. The truck is rough, but the frame is good. The last time I seen the truck it was still a whole truck. You could rebuild it but it would take awhile. I call him for sure Friday night around 9:00 or 9:30 that is the best time to get ahold of him, then I will let you know something on here. I'll see what he will take for the whole truck b/c it will cost you more to buy the frame than the truck b/c then he will charge more b/c he will have to do somework to take it apart. You can buy the truck real cheap. I'm talking $200 or $300 bucks. I have a buddy who buys cars off him all the time for $250-$300. But let me know if you would want a 51-52 frame and I'll get you a price on the truck. I'll still try to get in touch with the guy who has the 47 to for you.

loholland, I got a hold of him and he gave the truck back to his dad. So know I'm trying to get in touch with him. But the 51 is still there. Hey! FortyFord, Sounds like you have a decent truck. Is it a 1/2 ton, and do you have pics of it. I live in KY so its hard telling what it would cost to ship the truck here. The 46 I have know it come from Texas and it cost $800 dollars to bring it to my front door. Hard telling what it would cost coming from CA with what gas cost now. I would like to see the truck though. And welcome to the site, alot of good info on hear and alot of good people to.

FortyFord, where about in Ca are you?

Loholland...I was surfing the fordbarn.com site earlier today and saw a '42-47 frame in Ky for $300.00...might be close enough for you.
