Replacing front calipers on 94 Ranger
I have never replaced the front calipers on my 94 Ranger. The Haynes book did not give much details on how to do this. I am replacing the front calipers with a "loaded caliper" kit from Autozone (Morse). I am also replacing the rotors and brake hoses. From reading other posts, I realize I will have to bleed the brakes, but I was wondering if I have to bleed at all four brakes. I have the RABS, but the work will only be limited to the front. Can I stick with ony bleeding the front brakes?
I was also wondering how to force all the air out of the new calipers. Do I have to bleed the brakes with a clamp holding the piston in, or force the piston in slowly with the bleeder valve opened? I dont know wether the normal bleeding process will force all the air out if the piston is free to move.
Thanks for any information you can provide.
John
I would bleed all the brakes, you should only get air in the front but I'm sure the rear fluid is old and it would be a good idea to get some fresh fluid back there. Bleeding should remove any air in the new calipers.
