Does any vendor offer 'original' looking wiring but with a fuse block added in?? I'd like to stay with 6V if possible but drops are ok if that's the only option. Tks~JH
I haven't seen one with a fuse block yet. The circuit breaker system isn't too bad if you limit the amount of accessories that you add and such. I wonder if a fuse block panel could just be installed on an original harness instead of the circuit breaker assembly?
Hey Gary; I was thinking that too about the fuses being added as the harness is put in. Could the panel just be added under the dash somewhere before it leaves the firewall or something similar? So far I've only replaced the batt./sol./starter cables so I've barely just begun the replacement of the old stuff. ~Dan
I would think you could add the fuse panel where the old cicuit breaker assembly is. It'll do basically the same thing. I know on one of my trucks some of the wires are hot that are at the cicuit breaker, so a fuse panel should be a fairly easy swap, same basic idea, but fuses instead of a circuit breaker, plus the ability to add extra circuits for various accessories.
Jon, where does the harness come out into the engine compartment on the 38?
Is it in the center of the firewall or on the left side, of the cowl looking from inside the cab.
If its on the left I have a brand new harness complete that is correct with the original cloth cover, and terminal ends.
As far as the fuse block goes you can add that just about anywhere, to a live wire , and through a fused terminal.
What is it you need the extra fuses for anyway?

Hi~ 5 Star! I'd like to add turn signals, heater, some interior lights, probably a wiper, maybe that elec. rad. fan, and some other stuff. Not really sure about it all yet. My dash cutout is in the center just to the inside of the steering colm. Tks for the ideas~JH
You can pick up the hot wire from the in side of the circuit breaker, and branch that off into a fuse block, of maybe 3-4 fuses.
Sounds like your not going to need much power for what you intend on doing.
I still didn't get where you mentioned where the main harness goes out into the engine compartment. Is it on the left side closest to the outside, with a metal cap covering it.
As I mentioned I have a complete new harness for a 39 truck, that has the original type cotton braided wire, and proper color coded wire, with the bullet ends, and such.
Anyway if your interested in it let me know, as i don't have the truck any longer, and am not going to use the wire.
5 Star is right, you could use a wire from the cirucuit breaker, or you could even run a hot independant of the circuit breaker. Run a small add on style fuse panel, and you can run those extra accessories. There are soem vendors that even sell cotton covered wires, so you don't have to have the vinyl style wires runing through and being seen. The '39 wire loom is different from the '38, so it may need some modification to work on a '38, but it could work.
