Tranny Temp gauge grounding...

Wondering when all you gentleman grounded your tranny temp gauge. Mine is grounded with all the other gauges under the dash, but it never really seems to change or go over 100. Wonder if grounding it closer to the sender on the tranny would yield better results. I have Autometer Z-series if it helps. Thanks Gents........

I don't know what your ambient temp is there, but in the winter in the northeast, my trans temp gage never moves either. Usually the trans temp runs 60-70 degree above ambient. If yours is not, I would look for either a bad connection or possibly a bad component. Where did you put your sending unit?

I grounded mine in the same place with all the other gauges and it works fine. I know the Autometer instructions say that it should be grounded as close as possible to the sending unit, so I would first check to make sure you have a good solid ground where it's currently grounded, and if it's ok, or that doesn't fix it, then I would move the ground closer to the sending unit.

The sending unit/sensor is a brass plug inserted into a blank service plug in the tranny housing. It grounds through the case I'm left to guess. Even this summer I have yet to really see it do anything. It reads about 125 only when I back out of the throttle, but as soon as I'm back on it the needle returns to it's minimal reading. Weird. Thanks for any feedback.

Most trans temp senders I have installed have been in the cooler line this is the out line to the cooler in this location you get the best reading of your true trans temp.
