So its getting closer to Friday and I can hardly wait. I was wondering if anyone in the Houston area can give me an idea of the price of Diesel in Houston. I calculated that it would cost me around $150 in fuel to get back to Albuquerque with my new toy, but after Katrina it may be much more.
I have a friend that told me he made the trip in his F-250 with just over one tank of fuel, but I'm skeptical. Its about 800 miles. I'm thinking he may have been standing too close to a peace pipe.
WOOT! Just realized this was my 500th post. Sorry it wasn't more interesting.
It's actually closer to 850 to 900 miles. I grew up in Moriarty and go back and forth between there and Austin alot and that's a little over 700 miles. The price of Diesel here in Austin was $2.60 yesterday morning when I filled up. I have never made the trip in my powerstroke, but I think I would have to stop and fill up somewhere, probably Clovis, or Levelland. But unless prices go absolutely crazy, you should be close to your figure.
Gotlift, I live here in Houston and diesel is runnin about 2.65. Also a little warning - the closer you get towards town the higher the price gets I have seen the price as high as 2.95 nearer town so fill up before you get here and fill again as you are leaving.
Yesterday morning I filled her up at a Kroger in Tomball 37 miles from houston for $2.37, with .10 cents off from the kroger card. but $2.47 to $2.57 was the going rate before Katrina. I think I gonna top her off again today before the price guaging get to out of hand.
I filled up Sunday at Wal Mart in Kemah for $2.35. It's probably higher now. The September heating oil contract is $2.09 as I sit here and I think there's $.45 of taxed plus transport.
Are you buying a NEW truck? Make the dealer give you a tank full. You'll have to fill up at least once and then you'll have a near empty tank when you get home. My truck has a range of 400 miles with a 29gal tank.
Is traffic between Austin and Dallas always bad? Went through a few weeks ago on a Friday afternoon and Austin was stop and go and the interstate quite frequenty got down to 40mph. We got off and took hwy 77 (?) and then back to I-35 just south of the OK border.
hey gotlift, i filled my truck yesterday at the Flying J on the east sid eof San Antonio for 2.39....not sure what it is gonna be when you go through, but they are always VERY reasonable. try pokin around on www.flyingj.com. they have diesel prices listed...

J.D.
The traffic on most of I-35 in Texas is way overcrowded, from Dallas to San Antonio it is a real grind, I always take another route. The stretch from San Antonio to Laredo use to be fairly calm, but these days it is a never ending stream of big rigs to and from Mexico ( thankyou NAFTA ).
Just want to put my two cents in.... WalMart gas station has been the cheapest around NE Houston lately, Yesterday morning on the way to work diesel was $2.44/ga, yesterday when I got off of work it was $2.59, this morning it was $2.69!!!
I went and filled both of my trucks up yesterday at the $2.59/ga price, now I have a full 38ga tank in my 1999 PSD and 60ga in my 1984 F350/6.9L. I know it won't last forever but at least I should have enough diesel to ride out September.
And on a side note I have been forced to leave my beautiful Superduty at the house and drive my old 1984 back and forth to work due to fuel prices, the PSD gets 16-17mpg and my 6.9L gets 20+mpg, boy do I miss that air conditioning!!!
That Chevron hasn't received my business in a long time. Their prices go up and down more than a roller coaster. I can't wait to see how much it costs me to get to New Mexico this weekend.
