Since I've got my 5.4 L, 05 Scab F-150 a few months ago, I've never been happy with the performance of the truck; as it would seem some others here have also mentioned this. I've also had on two occasions "service engine" faults light up. So after a couple of trips back to my dealer they resolved my heart ache.
So boys, the scoop is......... new plugs..... yup, there's a new set with different numbers. I don't know the exact type, but it's in Ford's service tech's system.
Also, there's an update for the on board computer.
The truck is MUCH more responsive, it down shifts sooner, and harder. Acceleration is way up.
It even sounds better, and rev's up faster.
I'm not implying this affects all the 2005 5.4's, this is based strictly on my truck build, with pre-existing issues.
how or what made you get the reflash?i think the truck is fine but we all would love to have that little extra then maybe we wouldn't need to spend money on those tuners.
I had mye truck CPU reflashed and still have some performance problems but not as bad. what is the part nubmer of the new plugs. Some be on your paper work from the dealer. I think if you could post that info, would be a great info for everyone to make their truck better.
Well......it's been over a week since the new plugs and flash update were done, and I couldn't be happier. For me and my truck, this was a Must Do.
Has anyone else done the plugs and re-flash??????
gandnb,
Sorry, nothing on my Ford paperwork gives the new plug type used. But it should be a no charge warranty issue; so I'd bring her in for a free-bee plug swap and a re-flash to the latest version.
billc,
I wouldn't know if this service bulletin also applies to the 4.6's
When was your 04 produced? did the dealer charge for the re-flash, or did they do it under warranty? They put new plugs in too, did you have your truck in for something else, or just because it felt sluggish?
just got a brand new 05 3 days ago w/ the 5.4, sales guy said he didn't know about any service bulletins, next time i'm at the dealer i'm asking the service tech. the tranny does feel slow to shift....
All this is well and good guys but we need a reason for the reflash and plug swap. The dealer isn't going to perform these services just because we tell them we want them done. Even if we give them the symptoms they aren't gonna do the work unless they find the symptoms, and even if we are having problems they are going to do work according to what they find wrong. So even if we want a plug swap we might not get it!!
A service rep told me it was an injector problem, when they fixed the injector they would replace the spark plug? We just need to keep pooling our info, I don't think any one person will get a complete or full answer to any problem.

Not neccessarily... I got my Focus flashed several times just by asking. I would print out the TSB and take it to the dealership and tell them I wanted the latest flash per the TSB. Maybe because it was the SVT Focus and there were known problems with the factory tune, I dunno? If you go in with all you ducks in a row and show them the TSB and claim to have these symptoms, they will usually test drive it, either find the symptoms themselves or flash "based on customer complaints of... " If you take the vehicle in for any warranty service and there is a new flash out, that is one of the first things they do. It's a quick and easy fix to get the vehicle in and out. Either wya, it can't hurt to go ask. Just act like you know more about it than the service writer (which you likely will).
