Ride Rite Air Bag/Compressor Install Questions

I am putting Ride Rite air bags and air compressor on my my '03 Excursion. Any recommendations on where to install the compressor? I installed Air Lift system in another vehicle and put compressor on the frame rail where it was recommended in instructions and had some moisture problems. I ended up making a sheet metal cover that protected the compressor, but would like to avoid that this time. Thought about mounting under the hood, but thought there might be a heat issue.

Also, does anyone know where to tap into the dash lights for the air gauge light? I thought about tapping into the headlight switch. Wondered if anyone knew the wire color etc.. Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

Don't tap into any headlamp switch, especially on newer vehicles. Try taking a feed from the radio light if it is available, that is SOP.

I would think about installing the compressor in the tailgate or rear door and running extra insulation under the trim panel to deaden noise. That way you can avoid holes in the sheet or body metal and run the wires and hoses through existing rubber grommets.

Can't really install in the rear doors, no place to route air lines and the lines would kink anyway. Not sure about radio light wire. Do you know what color radio light is? Thanks for the ideas.

No, I have never owned an Excursion and have hardly worked on any.

FWIW: The reason for using the radio lamp is SOP is because a) easily accessable b) usually has enough amps available to run another small accessory c) harness is usually separate from the main harness so if you mess something up, it can be easily replaced.

What you might consider is mounting the compressor in a small fiberglass box used for batteries in race cars. Usually they are water tight and have a vent tube and you could mount that to the frame somewhere up near the body. Or on the pass. side inside the front bumper or if your oil filter is not there, on the driver's side.
