Question strg wheel puller

Can anyone recom'd a puller for a '38 1/2 ton? I'm trying to replace the old one with a banjo. How does the horn/light button come off? Tks.~JH

Steering Wheel Puller

Yes sir the horn cap does come off, first you have to jack up your truck, then at the bottom of the steering box, move the bail or wire. Then remove the cap that contains the light switch, get it out of the way. The you will need a light to see up inside where you have just taken the cap off.

Now there is a small clip a "C" type clip, remove it carefull not to loose it. Once this is off then get out from under the truck and remove the horn button. You may even have to get back under and loosen the steering box, as there may not be enough room to remove the horn button with rod attached, inside the cab.

Then if this works loosen the nut that holds the steering wheel, don't remove it completly. I use instead of a puller a piece of soft wood and a hammer give the bottom of the wheel a good whack or 2, and it should come loose. Next remove the nut, and then the wheel.

Now just reverse the entire proceedure, the wheel goes back on with a key-way, so it only goes on one way. Once this is complete enjoy your new Banjo Wheel. The wording sounds more complicated than the actual proceedure itself, happy motoring.

If your old wheel is good I would be interested in it, if its a standard truck wheel, and light, horn button.

Hey5 Star! Thanks for the info. doesn't sound too bad now that I've been crawling ar'd under there for 2 or 3 mo's. I'll try it soon since the old girl is laid up with a water pump leak and needs parts. I'll let you know how it works out! My old wheel is in better shape than the banjo but just has the stock spokes(3) and some cracks and such ard the rim. If you're still int'd, I'll get the wife to show me how to send a pic. or two. See ya later~JH
