Alright, so I finally got up the nerve to buy a 6 cd changer for my 2003 ford explorer, I went on ebay found a factory one that wook match the look of my car and everything. I got it and installed it everything fits and works perfectly. One problem, theres no bass! I turned the treble all the way down, and the bass all the way up and no bass what so ever, even moving the bass' intensity and you dont hear a change. Thinking this was weird, I put in the other factory radio that I bought the car with, and the bass works fine on it. Anybody know anything about this? Im plugging everything in the back of the new one like the old one? It would really suck if the radio I just bought was bad, so please, if anyone knows anything let me know!!
The factory stereo that came with my car was a cd player and a cassette player, the one I just bought was another factory stereo but a 6 cd changer (indash)
Ok, I just got off the phone with ford, the stereo is audiophile, and my car isnt. GREAT! the person that I bought the stereo from off of ebay wont give me a refund. GREAT! Does anyone have any ideas as to how I could upgrade my 2003 explorer from the normal audio package to the premium (audiophile) package? or anything that would get the stereo to work in my car? please help me
If you can get the wiring diagram, you can hook up the stereo's outputs to a small amp and a sub for the bass. Or you could find a salvaged explorer and rip out all the audiophile stuff and put it in your explorer..........way too much work. Sorry about your troubles, hope you get it worked out.
Ask the Ford dealer who their local radio repair shop is (Ford has authorized radio service centers do their work) and call them. Tell them that you need to have your radio re-programed to a premium instead of an audiophile. The reprogramming turns off the sub woofer output and makes the 4 Channel outputs full range. On audiophiles the 4 channels go through a high pass filter that removes frequencies below about 200Hz.
I hope they can help you out...

Also if there is a factory subwoofer, there is an amp powering it. The wiring harness has a wire on it that says amp remote, or something to that effect (usually blue). That must be hooked up to the amp remote wire for the head unit for the amp to turn on with the head unit. It sends a signal to the amp to turn on and off.
