Hello looking to get a new exhaust for my 98 explorer 4WD it is a V6 sohc.. whats agood brand to go with ive Gibson and flowmasters are good are there any others i should consider ?
thanks
You're going to get all of 2-3 hp by installing a cat-back on that vehicle. Find a muffler you like and take it to a muffler shop and have them cut your old one out and weld that one in for $20. It'll be cheaper and it'll sound and perform the same. You'll get a lot of people that believe the claims of 15 hp from a cat-back, but that's marketing hype. I too, like the Borlas.
I would not disagree with going with Borla but I am finding it painfully difficult to get a hold of anyone at the factory who can answer even the must rudimentary question. Leaves me to wonder what good a million mile warranty would be if no one answers the phone.

Thanks for the info as this is the first I am hearing of any issues like this. What extension are you calling? Please send me an email at davidb@borla.com. Thanks again
Dave...I admire your engagement. I managed to get a hold of your sales rep in Mass and placed the order with him..So I am soon to be a proud owner of dual cat back for a 2005 F150. Bottom line is great product still overcomes the difficulty reaching someone.

Thanks for the kind words.
However, it's not acceptable to me that you had a problem getting a hold of us and I appreciate you letting me know.
I have a set of Borla SST headers on my 93 4.0. Initially, it took a bit to get them since i ordered through Summit Racing (best prices) but they didn't have any in stock and had to be made at the factory. I got a hold of Dennis Barton, sales at Borla. This was back in June of 2002 and he couldn't have been more helpful. He sent me a weekly update of the manufacturing que and his dates wer right on. He even sent me a pic file of the CAD drawing so I could see ahead of time exactly what I'd be getting since I was worried about how the EGR was to hook back up. They fit like a glove and really help out the cat back system. It was still a little tricky getting the EGR tube on due to the tight angles but a minor inconveience for the performance gain. And I had one gasket leak since it's impossible to get good torque on the most rear bolt on the driver's side. I would highly recommend these for your 4.0.
I have always been a fan of magnaflow and flowmaster(thats what my buddies are running), but I might have to look into borla now, still a ways off on putting an exhaust on mine, so we'll see.
Did you guys drop your Explorer products? I'm trying to find something for my 99 Explorer XLT 4x4 with the 4.0 SOHC.... but keep getting sent to the "we don't have a part number for your vehicle" page. I tried several different combinations, but keep getting the same thing. I'd prefer to not use a universal.... any advise?
I just traded in my Bronco for a 98 Explorer because of gas mileage . On my V8 I ran a Flowmaster and it sounded great. My quetion is: what sounds the best on a 6-cylinder?
