My compass in my '99 Expedition is off the charts. Well it works still but has north, south, east, and west confused with eachother so it is inaccurate. Is there a way to reset it or is it time to find a new one?
Mine did the same thing about a year ago and I tried to reset it according to the manuel, and I never could get it to work. A few weeks later I realized the battery was going dead(I found out the hard way). My suggestions check your connections and have the battery checked. Once I changed the battery the compass started working again just fine. Good luck!
The manual outlines the steps to recalibrate your compass. If you don't have a manual let us know and someone will post the instructions for you.
The only manual I have is a Haynes manual. I do have the factory owners book in the glove box. Is the instructions for the compass in the Haynes manual or one of the Ford dealer repair manuals. Maybe one of you guys should just post up the instructions for me please!!!
Yes it should be in your Ford owners bookl. Just look under "compass" in the back and it will give you step by step on how to reset it(Atleast mine did).

Ok I will look into that when I get off work today. If that does not fix the problem what do I do next?

Really... hmm? There is a funny antenna mounted to the roof of my Expedition. I have no idea what it is there for, it was there when I baught it. I know I dont have XM or Sirus radio in the car at all. I'll have to see if it can be easily removed and just maybe that will fix the problem.
If the compass worked when you bought your truck this is most likely not your problem. The compass sensor on the 1997-02's was on the rear view mirror. A magnetic base antenna within a few feet of this will cause erratic readings.

No its always been inaccurate ever since I bought it. The antenna sits a little bit infront of the rack on the roof. Maybe its still what my problem is.
I just came back in from looking at the antenna out on the roof of my Expy. It is just above the doom light on the inside of the truck. I tried to remove it but I think it is either glued on with that 3M double sided stuff or the magnet is really strong, it just would not budge though I did not put all my effort into it because I didn't want to do any damage to the roof. It is deffinately made out of metal. I will have to see tomorrow about removing it.
