OK here's what I found, 86 2 wheel drive diesel ranger that I know nothing about. To be honest with you I'm not a ford man but the diesel in this thing is pullin me in and sayin buy me for a toy to make black smoke with. Any way I need to know if any one has a repair manuel for this thing cuz well it was transplanted into a gas 2 wheel drive ranger and well it's not all hooked back up. SO I need a lil help gettin it to run agian. I know it ran b4 it was put into the truck it's in now I have witnesses. But here's the plan, I'm gonna find a 4x4 ranger and put this diesel in it and well were I'm at here in ohio bout every one has a Cummins or Power Stroke. I have a Cummins and well it's a new truck and well I really dont feel like makein it smoke just this second. So that's wut this ranger it for. So any info that is out there to be had on this please post it for me cuz I have no clue about this thing. When I mean smoke I mean nuttin that gonna screw up the engine just when it's romped on. So no I'm not gonna destroy this thing.
Diesels are pretty simple and really only need a fuel injector pump to run. If the fuel injector pump was removed from the engine it will have to be re-timed to inject fuel at the correct time. It might be easier to have a shop set the timing because it usually requires special tools. Other than the fuel pump, there is usually a fuel shut off solenoid that could be preventing fuel from flowing to the pump.
As for a manual, most of the manual publishers have their own web sites where you can locate the one for the vehicle where the engine came from. i.e. haynes.com ect...
Heh. You are getting pulled into a money pit. Be overjoyed that you are getting a Mitsu 2.3L TDI. Not that much gittyup, but it may suffice. You'd need the proper 4wd diesel tranny to make that swap work, among toher things, anyway.
As for what "is out there to be had on this", basically nothing in terms of parts. Find me an 80s model compact truck diesel that you can find parts for and I just don't know what I'd do in response. Isuzu? Nothing. Nissan? Nothing? You bet. Mazda's diesel? Nope.
I don't believe Haynes covers them diesels, either. I know Ranger manuals were gassers only, I believe.
