'38 1/2 ton~ Last fall they both worked. This spring the run'g lite worked but the stop didn't. Lately, the run'g quit also. Is there a temporary way to get them both work'g again while wait'g for the new harn's? Tks~JH
If you have the same bullet connectors that I have on my 48, they build up corrosion inside and need cleaned. Pull them apart and push back together - bet it fixes it.
Tried that but I have the spade conn. and they are pretty clean, didn't help. Still worked them in and out but still no-go. Probably in my brake switch and column wires. Thanks for the help! JH
Next step is tedious, but I'd check connections with a continuity tester to see where you have power and where you don't. Start with the light switch and work down to the taillights. Also, light bulbs can corrode at their bases.......... good luck with it.
Good idea to check first if bulbs, then if you have power to them. Put a little lithium grease on the connectors it slows down corrosion.
If your useing a Dot 5, or Silicone Brake Fluid, the brake light switch tends to leak. There is a fix for this and that is the Brake Light Switch off a Harley Davidson. I don't know the exact part number, but if you took it to a Harley dealer I'm sure they will fix you up with one. Apparently their's are for use with Dot 5 Fluid. You only have to change the ends of the connectors.
Should have read all my mail first and combined the messages! Oh well. Still have mechanical brakes so that fix is out. Anyhow, got them working by changing the connectors and sanding up the lite sockets and bulbs. Thanks for all the responses!!! See ya~JH
