I plugged off my EGR valve (new from Ford) on my 92 F150 with an automatic (I6 of course). My hesitation went away but the check engine light came on. I have been doing some searching about what issues would arrise if I put in a restrictor plate on the truck, but no real answers (seems most people have the problem with the 5 speed).
Other than the possiblility of the CEL light coming on occasionally, will a restrictor plate cause any other problems for me.
It looks like I will be making it out of some tin flashing that I have an put a 1/8" hole in it and buy 2 new gaskets. Is there anything else I need to look into or do before doing this or should I be good to go?
Okay now I am asking this to make sure I am getting this right. You plugged off you EGR. Did you take the valve completely off or what. I have a 78 and I took off the piping for my EGR but I didn't take the valve of itself. It really ran like crap. I was wondering if I should take the valve completly off and plug it. Just wondering. I have my head off my truck right now and I am doing a vlv job on it, but the more I ask about an EGR the more people don't know. Thanks
I plugged off the vacume line to the EGR valve. After talking with the neighbor, he said what could possible happen is the truck would run rich by leaving the vacume line plugged off. I put on a restrictor plate last night and hooked the vacume line back on and so far no CEL and no hesitation. My question was more, what issues would I run into by doing this.
