Hey all, I just made the deal of the day. My friends loss is my gain. His son just switched to the dark side ( chevy ) and doesn't want his old ford anymore. So I bought it at a great price. It is an F2504wd, that they claim is a '76. But it has the rectangular head lights. It also has a 360 or a 390, which sounds like 76. But the title numbers come back '79, 4x4 w/ a 400. Obviously SOMETHING has been changed. Fuel tank is under the bed, in the back, if that matters. I am hoping to use some 35" BFGs on it, as I have an old set here, but they are for 15" wheels. The truck has 16s now and they look like there is not alot of room around the brakes. The truck has an open knuckle front, big twin piston brakes, and the reverse cut ring&pinion. The front is held up with leaf springs that are almost straight, and there is a sway bar there that looks factory. The lockouts are thick at the wheel flange and then taper smaller twards the ends. Does anyone know of a 15 inch wheel that will fit ? maybe with a little grinding on the cailipers ? Or is that a bad idea ? DF, sneakin' in on the computer at work
JS, it definately has an FE engine in it. Thats what caught my eye when I first looked at it. I've always been an engine guy, but driveline stuff is getting out of my area of knowledge. The engine that is there was put in correctly, has the rear sump pan and looks factory. The truck also has integral power steering, not the slave cylinder style. That would also fit with the idea that it is a 79, with the 390 swapped in. Has a C6 auto, and what looks like a 205 case. The price I got I won't complain about nothing. I used to have 15x8 wheels, white spoked, on a '69 F250, but it was 2wd and drum brakes all around. DF, sneakin in on the boss' computer
you have two option engine swapped or the truck has been tagged? doe the metal tag on the door match the paper on on the cab? but by what you say it sound like a engine swap from a 76 1/2 ton (76 3/4 had seperated t-case)
the suspension brakes and steering all chime toward the 79 running gear... as far as the 15 8 holes they do make them look in my gallery at my 79 it has 35 15's you have to watch wheels offset... with the trouble I had I would go with a nice set of 285 70 16's .... they are making 16's wider now...
