Cab mount question for 40 -47 owners
Cab mount question for 40 -47 owners
A friend told me that he had 6 cab mounts for his 45 1/2 ton. Mine only has 4. His had one mount on each side between the front mount and back. I looked and there was a hole in the frame rale for a mount, but the floor of the cab had no hole, just an inverted U shaped brace tack welded by ford to the underside. The middle mount would be at about the front edge of the gas tank shroud. Do you have 4 or six?
Mike, I have a total of 4 wood block under one of my '46's. There is the long wood blocks up front, 2 smaller ones towards the back, for a total of 2 blocks on each side. There is the inverted U piece, and a hole in the top of the frame rail, but no mount. My other '46 1/2 ton, my '47 1 ton, and another '47 1 ton I had all had (have) the 4 block deal.
All together, there should be 6 bolts that secure the cab to the frame. Perhaps this is a '45 and older thing? I would be interested to know if for the '46 model Ford switched the mounting.

There are also two wood blocks that go app. in the middle of the cab, these seem to be for support only ,and not actually cab mounts. This is for the 42/47 era truck, not sure of mounting on the 40/41's
Gary is correct on the six bolts, the bolts also have small coil springs that i assume help to cushion the frame/cab assy.
Someone re-popped the blocks awhile back, not sure who though.

I've got the six bolts and four blocks total. The middle blocks that my friend and 46achers mention are not there, just the integral support. How about some other members' setups?
