23ft trailer?

How feesable is it for me to pull a 23ft enclosed trailer with my Expy? Its an 01 EB, bone stock. It would pretty much only be used to transport my Mustang and a few other little things (might try some road racing this year).

I know I dont need something this big just to haul a car, its just that my g/f's dad is offering it to me for $1500 bux.

The expy can handle a 23ft trailer with no problems. The weight of the trailer may be the problem. Look in the owners manual and see what your GCWR is. If you don't have the manual, give me all the info on your expy, i.e. engine, drivetrain, and rear axle ratio(if you know). I'll figure it out from there. You will also need tranny cooler, brake controller (trailer needs to have brakes), and maybe a wieght distributing hitch...

the max a bone stock expy can tow is like 5,500 if you have the 4.6 engine forget about it you need at least 3.73 gears

The 5.4L is rated to tow a minimum of 6800lbs for 4x2 and 6400lbs for 4x4. This is with 3.31 gears. If you have 3.55 it goes to 7800 for 4x2 and 7400 for 4x4. If you have 3.73
gears its 8300 (3.73 only avail in 4x2).

tow ratings are very confusing. there are some nice calculators and/or spreadsheets that will help you determine what you can SAFELY tow, and what will get you in trouble fast. i can't post any links because of my post count, but if you like, i will email them to you. i tow a 27 ft. travel trailer that is actually 30 ft. tongue to bumper. it weighs 5820 dry, about 7000 loaded. i use a nice Prodigy controller with a boost feature to handle the brakes; husky WD hitch with 800 lb bars, and a friction sway control. this setup tows nicely, but i WOULD NOT go any heavier. or longer. a lot of it will depend on where the towed weight is place in relation to the trailer axles/trailer tongue. all this and i have not said anything about tow vehicle tires/ratings which is also crucial.

Is that just applicable to certain years?
My 98 4x4 has 3.73 LS rear end...

78explorer, this thread applies to a 2001 expy. I have a 2001 also and that is the only year i have info on. Go this sites homepage and click on "specs" in the upper right corner. You can get tons of info on your 98.

My 99 has 3.73's, it is part of the tow package. I tow a 29' TT at 5700#s dry. I recomment the Equalizer weight dist. and sway control hitch, and the Prodigy brake controller.
