I read on a different FTE forum (can't remember where) that there is a port on the 4R100 that can be used for a screwing in a temperature sensor. I took a look today on my 2000 250 SD V10 4x4 and found something that looks like a port to me: to the left of the shifter mechnanic is an about 3/4 to 1 inch diameter "screw or disk" with a small estimated 1/8 inch hex that apparently is used to unscrew the "stopper". Is this the right spot?
What's the size of that port so that I can order the correct sized sender? Do I have to watch the length of the sender to not have any interference when it is screwed in?
It's 1/8" NPSF. That's a fine thread pipe. Most senders are that thread, so you shouldn't have a problem. The port isn't real deep, so get a short sender.
thanks for the info. Looks like I am not looking at the right spot, maybe I do? Is the little "hex-thingy" the actual port? It's located about 2 -3 inches in front (to the left looking from the driver side) of the shifter level mechanism. I tried to take a digital picture but cannot get a "clear unobstructed shot" with the camera of what I described in my original post. Does anybody have a picture or a link to a drawing? Also, what does NPSF stand for? Sorry for so many questions but I really don't want to screw up the tranny.
