Front Drive Shaft Turns Under Power In 2WD
Should the front drive shaft turn under power with the transfer case in 2wd and the hubs locked out? While servicing my 78 F150 Manual tranny I tried to spin the front drive shaft while the transmission was in neutral with the hubs locked out and it wouldn't turn until i put the transfer case in neutral. I don't think any thing is screwed in the transfer case cuz when I disengage the 4WD with the hubs locked in, I only get power to the rear wheels. Is that normal and I am just paranoid????? Any Help greatly appreciated!!

your front hubs are stuck in the locked position, at least one of them. Jack one front tire up, then try to turn shaft in 2wd. If it moves, but moves tire in air, that is the hub that is frozen. If it doesn't move, but the tire does, the hub on the tire that is down is bad.... Good luck, Dave

that sure could have been the problem, I put a new front drive shaft on the other night and everything was working like normal. So one of my hubs maybe was stuck. I need to take um off and repack them anyway. thanks for the reply
