95 aerostar/99 ranger

both have the 3.0L. The one in my ranger blew up, would the 3.0l from the aerostar be a bolt in swap? I currently have the flex fuel, i don't think the 95 is ffv. They're both automatics.

thanks
paul

I've never done it so I can't talk from personal experience. But I think you could get away with the swap. The '95 3.0L you are looking at doesn't have a conventional distributer, right? IIRC, some of the Aerostars still used a distributer ignition in '95 even though the Ranger 3.0L was upgraded to EDIS that same year. I suppose you could always swap in the camshaft synchronizer assembly and cam position sensor from your '99 if that issue exists.

You will have to use the '99 fuel inejctors since they are FFV specific and probably the whole fuel rail assembly too since the '99 doesn't use an external fuel pressure regulator like the earlier models.

Can't think of any other material differences off hand, though, so it seems like a feasible swap to me.

Is it possible to go without changing the fuel rail and injectors and just go without the ffv? I've no use for the ffv as it isn't even available around me.

Also, just thought of this, my truck is a 4x4 and van is 2 wheel drive. And would i need the whole wiring harness from the van or would i be able to keep my computer and such?

thank you,
Paul

You have to maintain the FFV status. The fuel system in your truck is a little different than the regular engines. Your fuel pressure different. Your engine's computer also is calibrated for a flex fuel capabilities. There is a flex fuel sensor that provides feedeback to the computer.

You have to use everything from your own truck, wiring wise.
