There is no bell housing or adapter that I am aware of that will fit the T-18 to the PSD. I don't think it would be real practical anyways since the 1:1 high gear on the four speed would put the engine rpm's way above it's torque range on the freeway.
I'm not sure how you would compare the strength of one verses the other, but the ZF's are more than twice the size of the B-W. The ZF-6 in my truck is the biggest tranny I've seen in a light duty pick-up, and so far has proven plenty stout.
The T18 is a good tranny for it's intended use , but was never designed to be put behind a desiel . The 5 and 6 speed trannies of today ( although expensive ) are far superior to the old T18 .
