I have a 1996 F350 7.3. We went to change oil and filter. When we pulled the old oil filter we found a spring and what looks like a washer with a hole in it on the ground. Is this an oil anti drain back valve? We didn't find a ball. Any help on this sho would be appreciated. John Wiggins
Let me see if I can explain this better. I was in a hurry this morning. The spring is about 2" long and 1/2" dia. The metal disk is maybe 3/4" dia. with a hole in the center about 3/8". I'm pretty sure it fell out when we took the oil filter out. There is a hole in the inside of the filter housing that looks like it would fit into. We put the new filter in and 14 quarts of oil and ran the truck today. Seems OK. I hope I explained this well enough. Looks like somebody would know if there is some type of valve in the filter housing. Thanks for your' time. J.W.
Can you look in the old filter and see were it came loose. The new filter I have on the shelf looks to have a check valve in the bottom but no hole in the middle. Was the new one the same brand?
Thanks mech2161. The filters were NAPA. Both old and new, but the spring didn't come from the filter. I think it came from the filter housing. The part you screw the filter into.
