So my EZ-valve came in this week. I went to Autozone this morning for a filter and oil. Motorcraft filter 18.99. 3 gallons of Rotella T6 discounted to match Walmart's online price. Then 10% military discount. So I got out of Autozone with 3 gallons of oil and a filter for $80.02 with tax. But, we all know I need one more quart of oil. So, on to Walmart for a single quart and a new funnel for $10.20. Luckily my oil filter wrench fits the filter. So, if at all possible I'll be doing the oil change tomorrow. $90.24 to change my own oil. Still a lot easier than wasting half a day going to the dealer to have it done.
I am getting my oil changed on my 2016 with the ford filter through the Chevy dealer quik lube for 89 Canadian out the door.Mind you its not synthetic oil.Cheaper than Ford in town and any other lube shops.
I had a coupon for $99 at my dealer. The problem is its a 30 minute drive one way and then waiting for them to get to it. Walmart carries the cheaper Rotella and Ford oils for as little as $13 per gallon. I was using T6 in my 6.0 so I decided to go with it in this one. Regular price at Autozone for T6 is about $27 per gallon. Plus, I didn't want someone to botch up the EZ drain install, even though its no different than screwing the plug back in.
This reminds me that I need to get synthetic in before it gets cold.
I changed the oil at 4000km and it has just over 6000km now.
Maybe I'm wasting my money.
I'm a big believer in running the synthetic oil in cold weather. I've got 3 gallons of T-6 coming from Amazon next week and the filters are already sitting here on the shelf. I expect my oil minder to pop up in the next 2-3 weeks, So I will hopefully get a nice warm early November day to change the Oil, Fuel and Air filters. Then I can get the winter.
Always buy it by the gallon even if it's for the 13th quart. They kill you on single quarts and you can always use the remainder on your next change. Mine also get's used in all my other small engines as it meets or exceeds all their requirements. I use it in my wife's CanAm Spyder, previous ATV's, John Deere tractor, RV generator, previous JetSki, and snowblower.
I was traveling and needed an oil change. Ford dealer was 4 days backed up, So I ran into the local Walmart, Grabbed a filter and shell T6 off the shelf and had them change it. When they finished, the backed the truck out of the bay and brought me the bill. I asked about the left over oil ( I had bought 4 one gallon jugs) and when they gave me 1 quart, I knew they had overfilled my truck.
I brought it to their attention that it only needed 13 quarts and they had used 15 quarts. After conferring with the owners manual, they agreed and pulled the truck back in and dumped the oil. It had circulated for less than 1 maybe 2 minutes as the backed it out and pulled it back in. Since they made the mistake, they allowed me to stand next to truck while they changed the oil again. This new oil after 1 minute was BLACK.
I learned that there must be some residual oil in various places that the new oil washes into the mix and turns everything black in just minutes. Never judge your oil by it's color.
