Ordering '05 F250, which Stereo, then aftermarket?
I plan on ordering a F250 and having an aftermarket head unit, sub, amp and possibly speakers.
Should I order the base stereo and plan on getting new speakers throughout, or get a better factory system so I can reuse speakers and wiring?
I had a new dodge or ford one time that had a built in factory amp in there high end system that had to be disabled, so it was kind of a waste to get the good factory radio. Wondering if the same idea applies to a new 250. Reuse compenents or gut the system and start fresh.
If you plan on new head unit, speakers, and amp(s), I would get whatever radio is the cheapest. Unless the interior package u get comes with a certain stereo.
I ordered the premier stereo in my truck and am running ~80 watts through each factory speaker now (with about 300 or so running through a jl audio 10). They sound pretty good but I'd get the cheapest ones you could now, then just use the wiring for your aftermarket speakers.
BTW, does anyone know what size speakers are in the 250's. I'm looking at a regular cab. Ford's site says 4-speakers, so I'm assuming 1 in each door and 2 in the rear somewhere.
I had the premium sound system in my '05 F350 - and after ripping it out, found that it is a complete pile of extremely cheap components. I've seen better speakers get torn out of a teddy bear by my dog. For MUCH better sound, replace those speakers, and by the way, they are 5x7/6x8 holes. Before I did my entire install, I plugged the factory deck into the newly installed Infinity kappas and just that addition made a night-and-day difference. Eventually, I put Infinity 5x7 kappas at each corner, an Earthquake sub in back, and powered them with an Alpine F450, and an Alpine deck, and dynamated everything but the roof and floor (which are next).
"Radio Delete" might not be a bad way to go but I'm not sure if the native wiring would still be included. Definitely don't order the Premium Sound System.
As far as Dyanamat goes, I ordered the bulk pack for about $90 off eBay; I think it was 100 sq feet. I covered some of the doors, the entire back wall and all the way up the C pillars as well as inside the plastic C pillar covers. At some point, the seats are all coming out and the floor will get covered with dynamat Extreme and probably Ensolite. The roof will be last.
As far as the system goes, I went to SoundTrack first and they wanted $2500 for complete install. I ended up buying everything off eBay (new in pkg, not refurbished, etc) and spent under $1,000 for a nice cap, Alpine MRV-F450 amp, 4 Infinity kappa 5x7's, earthquake 8" sub (after spending way too much time looking for a pre-fab, I built a sealed box), an amp wiring kit, an XM Roady 2, 12 gauge twisted wire for the entire system, the dynamat, and a nice Alpine deck.
I also have a FatMat Hoodliner (heat absorbing type) on back order. If $1,000 is within your budget, that system is well worth it. And don't forget the Dyanamat Extreme (or something like it).
