The key for the spare tire lock

Anyone know where I can get the key to drop the spare tire? I bought this truck used and was un aware I needed one, until I got to spend 2 hours on the side of the highway this Sunday unable to drop my spare. Thanks...Jeff

Oh yea...it is a 2000 F350 PSD 4x4

There is a piece that attaches to those rods that looks like a wheel lock key. Thanks...Jeff

Can your dealer give you one based on the VIN? Mine came in a plastic pouch in the owner's manual thingy in the glove compartment.

Should be in the glove box. That's where mine was located, bought used. 2000 F250 4x4.

I had a similar problem when i brought my truck. You will probably need to what i did and that is buy a new lock and key. Then jack up your truck , remove the bolts that hold the spare wheel carrier (not easy with the spare in place) then lower the whole wheel and carrier , remove the old lock (it just pulls out) install new lock and reassemble. This is much easier on a hoist.
Good luck.

The Ford spare tire lock keys are made by McGard, 1-800-444-5847. Hopefully, they can help you.

Good luck.

there is only a couple combinations of the key.. i think if you take it to a dealer they can turn it down then you can buy a new lock and key.. i had to do this too when i bought my truck 4 months used.. it was about $40 for new lock and key

Not all the trucks have the spare tire key. I'm not sure, but it probably has some thing to do with the trim model of the truck. My old 150XL didn't have it, but my new 150XLT does. You can just remove the lock part from the wheel carrier and use it like that.

Funny, but even without the key the lowlife chicago thieves almost stole my spare tire. At noontime i went into a restaurant , but forgot something in my truck. i went out to find a pontiac sunbird nosed almost under the back of my truck, and a black guy laying under my truck with the spare half way down. i hit the panic button on the remote, and he ran away leaving his car right there. A call on my cell phone brought the police who had him in the back of the police car in 5 minutes or so later. Wasnt too hard a black guy on foot in an all white neighborhood. the car had cable cutters, bolt cutters, crow bars, lock picks, and more. they took him in, and left his car there. i had to find the key to winch back in place. by the time the police were through with him and he came to retrieve his car, someone mysteriously had broken some windows, slashed some seats and spiked 4 tires. Needless to say, i found out a new spare is easy prey in chicago and bought a hardened square linked chain and a heavy lock and lassoed it through the frame and around the tire where it is visible.paid $60 for it and consider it cheap compared to no tire. been 2 years now and the tire is still there. Bill
