I love everything about my truck except,

Here in New York we got our first taste of winter last night. I am once again reminded of the one flaw in my truck. You warm it up, start driving, and from that point on everything thing that hits the windshield melts, runs down and refreezes on the windshield wipers. I am not looking forward to another winter of driving with the heater blasting in my face intead of on my feet in a vain attempt to keep the ice from building up. Was a de-icier an option, has anyone come up with fix. Thanks

i have always thought car makers should put 2-3 of those heated wires they put in the rear glass of cars and suvs in the front windshield. i'd put them down @ the bottom right were the wipers sit.. HELLO FORD ARE YOU HEARING ME.................

i feel your pain..

I have never had this problem! I live in South Mississippi.
To fix the problem: Move South!

LOL!! My 1993 Range Rover has the heated wire in the windshield. They have been that way since 1989. Being that Ford now owns Land Rover maybe they will use some of LR's ideas. Wish I had a Ford heater in the Rover however. I never thought the heaters were that good in them, but all my Fords had great heaters.

swanee - not certain I understand your problem as I live in NY also and don't have that problem except on those freezing ice/rain days which are rare. I use the Rain-X winter washer fluid which works great for me. Melts the ice that sticks to the windshield and the wipers wisk it way.

You can make a heated set up pretty easy. Coil some copper tubing around a heater hose and tap it into the W/W line. Presto-steamy window!

The heated wipers sound interesting I am going to have to investigate that further. It does not happen only in ice storms, but just regular snow. In the time it takes me to get to work ( half an hour ) I'll have two inches of ice built up over the slots in the cowl. Last year I thought it might be because the insulation under the hood ( 6.0 diesel ) but this year I have the V10 no hood insulation. Thanks for the input.

swanee - where in NY are you located? I am curious as I am in Western NY and I don't have the issue that you are describing other then during ice storms. I use to drive an hour and a half one way to work with my SD. Plus I plow with it and don't have it ice up on the windshield. Icing on the cowl does happen, but that happens on all my vehicles during the winter if you do any amount of driving in a ice or snow storm. I'm just trying to figure out what is different that is causing your icing problem.

I am in Northern Westchester County in the Hudson valley. Western New York you say, I went to college at Alfred Tech. If my memory serves me right for about 3 months straight every morning it was below zero and snowing. Loved it up there.

You know where I live then!! I grew up in Alfred, left, came back, and now live in Almond. Very rural and real snow belt area. Yep it has been below zero the last two nights here with the daytime highs of 10 to 20 degrees. I have a pretty good idea where you are and you tend to get more wet freezing snow there. It is just too cold here. Probably some of the suggestions that Bordaine gave would suit you.

If you are ever up this way again, let me know and we can hook up.

I might just do that, I always wanted to take my wife and children up there and show them some of the houses I built. Hey MobeyDick, just curious, what is F/N?
