Swaping ECMs
I have eletrical EGR problems with a 86 2.9. I was not able to solve the problem so I switched to a 89 engine control module the engine now runs fine. Because this unit the EGR system. Transmission also shift fine. Have driven about 200 mile with this set up. Does anybody think I will hurt anything using this ECM. What sensors might be a problem in the EGR system.

The 86 also had a knock sensor so that won't function and you may get a tranny code, the 89 had the converter clutch solenoid and the 3-4 shift controled by the ECU and I think the 86 only had the ECU controling one of them.
