I installed the xm antenna on my 04 on the back of the roof and ran the wire through the brake light. It worked perfectly until last night when we had some heavy rain. The back seat was soaked this morning. Any suggestions on what to do with the antenna?
I took the antenna out for now. Its pouring again and I just went outside and the seat is getting wet again. This sucks
Lots of people have complained about water coming in through the rear light. The gasket on some trucks was installed wrong at the factory. Take the light off and look closely at the gasket to see if it is damaged or installed incorrectly. If it looks bad, seal it with some silicone and get to your dealer to have it replaced.
If you live among the trees, then the dash/windshield method is not going to work for you.
I live in Northern WI, and notice he signal drops out far more when the anteanna is inside the vehicle. When I put it on the roof, only 2 dead spots that I notice while driving.
if you look at the top of the gasket, on the top of the light there is a little itty bitty channel there, (what for, I don't know) I ran the wire through that, and placed a dab of silicone on it, sealed perfectly, no leaks, and clean install.

I recently (this sat.) installed XM radio in my 2003 F150. I tried the antenna on the dash and most every other place to avoid actually putting the antenna on the roof. On the open road, you could probably put the antenna under the dash or seat and get good reception. But on local roads, next to building or even trees etc. the dreaded "no signal" display will appear and presto no sound.
The Skyfi2 directions read that the antenna must be on the roof or in the case of a convertable on the trunk. With the antenna on the roof and after 3 days of local driving not once have I lost the signal -- nada. I guess the directions are correct.
For my 2003, I ran the wire to the middle of the windshield and then under the rubber molding, then down the side of the windshield (again under the rubber molding), then into the door opening and then just to the outside of the door gasket. I then took off the plastic step plate (with the Ford logo) and there was room under there to pass the wire to the other side of the metal ridge that is under there and back to the dash. The wire is completely hidden under the plastic floor molding and under the dash.
Works fine on a 2003 model. I really didn't want the antenna on the roof for all the usual reasons but I will have to learn to live with it.
And I love XM. The skyfi2 even has a 30 minute replay option. If you like a song(s) you can go back and replay them How kewl is that?
My XM antenna was routed through the center brake light on the roof. No leaks, no problems. Perhaps during your installation the seal was damaged or replaced incorrectly.
