Question Towing a ranger with a tow dolly?

Hi, Im going to be towing a 99 ford ranger 2wd manual transmission on a tow dolly. Do I need to unhook the drive shaft before towing? I've asked many people this question and never gotten the same answer. Can anybody help?

thanks!

I have towed my 87 Ranger a couple times, I just put it in neutral and took off. No problems yet. Is towing Fords a regular thing? HAHA Greg

If you are going a long distance I would suggest taking the drive shaft off or just trailering it....I moved across country and put mine on a trailer...was much easier pulling and easier on the truck too.

I personaly take off the driveshafts if I don't use the trailer.I Purchase vehicles all over the United states on Ebay and have purchased and hauled 10 Just since September of this year.If in doubt just brake out the Owners manual and see what it says.If you don't have one I'm sure somebody on this site has one.Good luck.

This thread made me curious about towing my 87 with manual trans, so I looked it up in my owners manual. And it says "Towing 2 wheel drive vehicles/rear wheels on the ground with manual or automatic trans.
1 Place trans in neutral
2 max speed 35 MPH
3 max distance of 50 miles.
NOTE if a distance of 50 miles or speed of 35 MPH must be exceeded, disconnect the driveshaft." I guess there must be some splash fed bearings in the manual trans that go dry when towed. Like Fredricks said just look in your owners manual.

Yes, for my 98, it said basically the same thing......go slow, and don't go over like 50-75 miles. If you are going farther or faster, disconnect the driveshaft.
