Ok, so I posted before about my right fender not lining up on my '99 4dr and someone mentioned that maybe it had been wrecked & for whatever reason Carfax missed it. I know think that's a pretty good bet.
I noticed on my hood today that there is a stamp on the right side, pretty much right above the air filter box that has the Ford logo & 1995. I'm guessing that means the hood was made in 1995 and they probably don't keep too many 1995 hoods lying around to install on a '99 coming off the line....so my hood was replaced.
I don't see any overspray or any other indications of a wreck. Assuming the hood & right fender were damaged at some point, what else should I look at? I want to find as much info as I can now, before things start falling apart on me.
So far, I've had to replace the right lower ball joint & I hear a noise, kind of a clunk, when the wheel is turned all the way to the right.
If the 95 and 99 are the same body style, it might have a 95 stamped on it from the factory. I work at Ford and the hoods or the fenders, can't remember, on the vehicles we make are stamped 1997, and we are building 2005's, that is because they never changed them, so they just keep using them.
I thought I read on this forum sometime back that Ford made the hoods about 1/4" difference in size between the 95-97 and the freshened up versions that came out in 98. Maybe you have an older style hood on your 99 causing the problonem.
