Mustang II IFS into 47 Ford Panel

I just bought a 1947 Ford Panel 1 Ton Delivery and am getting ready to put a Mustang II IFS into it. However everywhere I go there seems to be a setup for 35-41 and 48-56 but not the 47. Does anyone know the difference between the 48 and the 47 and if it is possible to use the 48 IFS? Here is a link to the TCI site that has the suspension I am looking at http://www.streetrodparts.tv/tci_mustangII.htm
If anyone has the dimensions of the frame rails of the 48 so I can compare to see how different they are from the 47 that would be awesome.

Thanks,

From what I can tell Fatman has the same year cutoffs as everyone else. I did get a reply from Billy Hart at www.hartrods.com that the 42-47 trucks used the same frame as the 35-48 cars. So he said that he just installed TCI's 204-2352-00 in a 46 panel and sent me pictures. It looks like a little more modification but I guess it works. I think I am going to try it.

thanks

The truck frame, is NOT the same as the passenger car. In fact, in '42 all commercial Ford vehicles used truck type frames not related to cars. From what I have heard from numerous people, avoid Fatman Fab stuff, some of their stuff is of questionable quality and integrity. Street Rod Engineering lists a crossmemeber kit, and says it fits '42-'52. http://www.streetrodengineering.com/...gllifskits.htm When I finally get around to building my other '46, this is the place I was going to go to for my IFS.

If by year cut offs you mean he skips the 42-47, he doesn't. its listed on the right side as "58 1/2 inch hub-to-hub "2 inch widened" 42/47 Ford PU"

Now quality is a good point, and as I have never delt with them, I can not tell you anything about them personally. What I do know is I HEARD they had a problem with a batch of their kits that went out. Apparently some of the bolts had the wrong grade tenstile strenght and the bolt sheared off. ( slight problem eh?) From what I understand Fat man payed for the repairs on those cars. But this is only what I have HEARD, and I can not verify it for you. You have to think though about how many kits are sold, and how in a large amount of volume of that product what the chances are of somthing goind wrong.

I have also heard of the bolt problem and them shearing, turns out he had a design that allowed the bolt to rust easily and therefore corrode. The other thing I have heard comes from a guy I know here who I talk to sometimes, who also owns a '46. He told me how many problems he had getting a Fatman IFS to work on his shoebox Ford. Turns out the angles that Fatman incorporated into the design were wrong, and when he contacted Fatman to find out what to do he was basically told he didn't know anything and that Fatman was correct. He just got a huge run around, and Fatman Fab did not want to own up to making a product that had a few design flaws. So, needless to say the Fatman stuff had to be "corrected" by a shop to get the car to sit correctly and to have the suspension be correct.

Last night I talked to a guy named Tom at HartRods who said that TCI 206-2352-00 is a direct replacement for the 47 PU and Panel. They also sell the power brake booster and pedal assembly that bolts into the stock location and the steering rod and joints needed to connect my stock column to the new rack. Tom really sounded like he knew what he was talking about so I ordered everything. They offer free shipping right now and a free upgrade to a power rack. I got the complete hub-to-hub setup with 11" discs, 4X4.5 ford bolt pattern, power rack, power brake booster and pedal, and the new steering rod shipped to my door for a total of $2,075. I didn't think that was a bad price compared to some others.

Now I just have to assemble everything when it shows up and let you guys know if it was worth the money or not. I hope I can post positive feedback.

Thanks for the help. If anyone has any installation tips please feel free to fire away.
