first of all guys, i own a ford and a chevy. sure enough im having problems with the chevy. i have a 99 cavalier that had a recall on the ignition switch. i dropped the car off and they said it would be a couple of hours. an hour later they called and told me that i need new brakes all the way around. when did they put the ignition switch in the wheels??? they said it would be over $700 dollars. i just replaced the front brakes 4 months ago with new pads and rotors.
i picked my car up and an hour later my check engine light is on. does anyone have a clue what they did? or could that be a coincidence?
Take your car to your local Autozone and they will check the codes for free. They may have "ACCIDENTALLY" unpluged a sensor under the hood while they were looking for other "PROBLEMS" to get more money from you.
i took my car to autozone and read my codes. it came up p0113 which is the intake air temperature sensor. i got home and looked under the hood, and right away i noticed it was unplugged. thanks for the advise
If you feel that the dealer was being dishonest report them to the Better Business Bureau... Heck even check their (BBB) websight and see if other complaints have been filed...
I would have my brakes checked by another mechanic and if they are determined to be good, I would contact the service manager and tell him about the brake situation first and then raise the question about the unplugged sensor. Tell him that you plan to report them to the BBB and see what kind of concessions they come up with.
Last week Buik dealer here told my mother she needed $1,100 in work to winterize her car. Fluid leaks and new gasgets. I had her take it to local mechanic, he ran dies and found no leaks. He changed coolant, oil and new plugs for $98.
She is 78 and they had to pay for having a shop I guess.
