E4OD / 4R100 Transmission Slipping as i accelerate!
Hello,
I have a 99' Expy 5.4, and lately i have noticed a slip in the gears as i hit the gas. I will be compleatly stoped and when i accelerate the tranny will jerk a couple of times thru the low end gears. I have noticed this for about 5,000 miles now, i am currently at 77,885 miles. I replaced the tranny fluid but i did'nt drain the torque converter. I am hoping that someone will have some advice on how to improve my tranny proformance without buying a new one. Thanks...
Doesn't sound promising, I guess you can get it serviced at a reputable transmission shop to really know the answer. Personally I think it's most likely on its last legs. My 98's tranny was rebuilt before the warranty expired b/c I was getting similar problems and I was around 81,000 at the time.
Thanks Phil, I think that going to a tranny shop might be my only choise at this point. I was going to see what i could do to get the most out of this tranny, any more advice anyone. thanks...
not sure you can do an entire tranny flush yourself. I had to take mine down to Oil express and let them hook it up to the transmission fluid exchange system. This machine actually sucks all the old tranny fluid out and replaces it with new. I'm pretty sure there is no way to get all the fluid out by any drain mechanism.
My 99 5.4 did the same thing. It would "slip" under a hard load like accelerating fast from a dead start or towing a TT. Here's a post I made back in July concerning the problem. It turns out it was the transfer case and a simply drain and refill solved my problem (at least so far). It cost me $240, but if I had known what the problem was I would have done it myself.
My 2002 with 50k miles is doing the same thing. Took it to a quick lube and had the tranny flushed with the machine, but didn't help. I spoke to a service manager at a local dealership and they told me it sounded like the torque converter itself. Not sure if they meant fluid or the actual unit.
Thank you everyone for your advice. I am going to try to change the Front & Rear Diff fluid and service the transfer case next as did 99expyTN. I will get to that this week. My problem sounds just like his almost exactly, so it doesnt hurt to try, its time to change the Diff' fluid anyway. Thanks...
