My 1988 F-150 351W is acting really wierd.... I finally found out that it's more than likely just dirty injectors and even inside the throttle body. I was told by someone else to take off the air intake hoses and look inside there, and if there's a lot of black junk and grease to spray carb/injector cleaner into it and it will solve the problem (That's what fixed his truck when it was running bad too). By the way, I did try this and it did help. The engine will actually STAY running now! Woo Hoo!
But it's still not running right, and there is still a Lot of carbon buildup inside. (At least that's what I am assuming the black junk is. Looks like it) Soo... another guy told me that all the other Injector cleaners are worthless and to take care of all the carbon buildup and dirty injectors, I could use diesel injector cleaner(the fuel supplement stuff) and put about half of the bottle for 1/4 of a tank. Since this is a gasoline engine..... I'm a bit nervous about doing that. Is there anything that can be damaged by doing that????
I saw in several other posts on here that many people like seafoam.... I never even knew it existed actually. Do I just pour it into my gas tank or do they make a spray too?
The product comes with instructions. Some goes in the air intake, some in through the pcv system, some in the fuel tank, and I think even some goes in the crank case oil fill hole. Pretty neat stuff that will do a thourough job of cleaning out every area of the engine system.
