1990 4.0 Aerostar fuel regulator
Does anybody know what the plastic clip inside the fuel line that clips onto the regulator is called? It's not the screw on fuel line, its the push on type. I accidentally broke it when I took out the fuel pressure regulator and I can't find the part anywhere. Thank you.

I'm not sure if this is the same part, but it sounds similar to the clips that hold the fuel line onto the fuel filter. They usually come with a new fuel filter so, if you haven't changed in a while, by one of those and use an old one on the regulator (hopefully same type).

I have the 3.0l, a whole different critter than the 4.0l, I have only generic (Haynes, Chiltons) manuals for the 4.0l, and the '92 Explorer (w/4.0l) that was in my driveway just left, so I can't be specific. Is it the "hairpin" clip style, the "duck bill" clip style, or the "garter spring" style (like on the A/C lines)?

(I didn't bother to scan the garter spring style)

The hairpin clip style is what I see on, for example, the fuel filter and the top of many Ford gas tanks connections. The garter spring style is often used on fuel connections too, I see them mainly on the braided SS lines. That's the style used on the 3.0l fuel rail, and pretty much requires a special tool to release it without damaging the connector. See

The hairpin and duck bill style clips are available separately at my local NAPA, and I assume at yours, too. Mine has an entire section of rack for fuel line and other connectors and bits. I bought a four-pack of the hairpin clips a couple of days ago.

Al S.

That's the EPOCH of UNIX clocks; it's the default when the correct time value is not available.

Having recently experienced a bad leak in the fuel pressure regulator, I can say it is NOT the same as the hair clip type retainer that keeps the fitting onto the fuel filter. The fitting does require a very special O-ring, which does the actual sealing. This was what failed on mine, and it left a gusher! I replaced the whole assembly with one of the tube-nut types. That meant getting the hose along with the regulator from the scrapyard.
