question about 03 ranger tranny
my dad's 03 ranger 3.0 flex had the planetary gear in the tranny go bad at 11000 miles. is this a common problem or just a fluke? any answers would be appreciated

Just a fluke I'm afraid... There's always a bad part or 2 that make it throgh the assembly line, and unfortunately, you got one. If all the Rangers had trannys that went out that quick, Ford wouldn't hardly sell one. Good news is it popped up under warranty, which is exactly why they have one. Go get it fixed and enjoy your truck...
ford does wanna help us. too bad it took a year of complaining to finally figure out what went wrong
