frame swap

Can anyone tell me what would be a good doner frame for a 1955 f100?
When I got mine striped down I found that the frame looked like the letter 's'Thanks Don

Best option is a 53-56 F100. I believe some of the guys here have shortened a long bed truck frame. Mods are necessary of course.

HI FATFENDERS;
tHE FRAME WAS BENT IN THE REAR JUST IN FRONT OF THE SPRING HANGER, i WAS ABLE TO JACK IT BACK TO WITHIN 1/4 IN. THE FRONT IS BENT AT THE TRANS. CROSSMEMBER. i WAS GOING TO INSTALL A CAMARO SUBFRAME SO I COULD COVER IT UP. BUT IF I COULD SWAP FRAMES EASIER I WOULD.

Unless you have the money to spring for a aftermarket frame I would just take it to a frame shop and let them fix it. Trying to run a different vehicles frame under it will probably cost you more in money and time than buying new frame for it.

I would have to agree with Terry. Unless another donor frame is available close by. What looks bad to you is often not such a big deal to a frame shop. I assumed we were talking about a rusted out frame.

If your only reason to change is a bent frame, by all means have it straightened. Changing frames is a time-consuming process and can get complicated quickly. It requires a lot of space and equipment, not to mention skill and time. I am happy with the results so far with my frame swap (69 F100) but often remind myself that I could have been finished and driving it had I just cleaned things up and went the more conventional route or even kept it stock.

I just saw a truck on Ebay that used an early 90's Ranger and it looked pretty neat. Nothing said exactly what he had to go through to make the swap but it did provoke some thought. There are several vendors who sell complete frames and there should be enough old frames for sale that you could pick one up rather inexpensively.

Good luck in your decision.

Bubba
