Ignition wires

I have told that ignition coils are physically attached to the spark plugs in the Escape V6 3.0 L engine.

Does anyone know what is the purpose of that?

Any experience out there trying to upgrade ignition wires in this engine?

It's called coil-on-plug (COP). Each plug has its own coil, so there is no benefit in a wire upgrade. The wires aren't carrying high voltage like a standard coil/distributor system. COP makes it easier for the PCM to control the firing of the sparkplugs. It acts as the distributor, but only switches low voltage.

It's the best there is available. I've checked after market houses that specialize in ignition and they all say they can't improve on the COP setup. It's very effecient.
