1988 302 to a 289 HO

I have a 1988 ford f-150 with 255,000 miles. It has the 302 fuel injected motor. I also have a nicely restored 1962 Ford Falcon with the high output motor. Could i put the 289 in the f-150 and will it boult right up the the f150 4x4 tranny or would i a need some sort of adapter plate. Also should I rebuild the motor now before something major happens to it or should i wait and put the 289.

I think in 65 ford changed the small block trans bolt pattern so I don't think it will bolt up. I would call your junk yard and buy a rebuildable engine last one I bought was $150 that way you can build that engine then just swap them.

In 1965 Ford changed the 289 from 5 bolt to 6 bolt bell housing.

I don't believe your Falcon came with that engine so it is probably newer, you'll have to swap the timing cover and water pump from the 302 as youhave a serpentine belt and your water pump will run backwards unless you do, or I guess you could go back to V belts, you'll have problems with the dist. unless your going to junk the computer and TFI dist.
