I do not know Ford engines well. Would the 1990 5.8L engine be able to be converted to a carb system? If so what years intake would work. I have a complete setup on the classified section and this question was asked. Thanks for any help. Carl
It's possible to convert it to Carb, but you'd have to revamp the whole fuel system, as well as get another intake, carb, hook it all up. EFI is way better, keep it.
I guess the question becomes what 351 is is being a 1990? What year intake and carb setups go on it? I am missing the throttle body and the wiring is toast due to a fire under the hood. I have this engine complete with pullys frame brackets radiator and shroud for someone wanting to convert from a the 300 six in and older application 1980-1985 pre-efi. Thanks.
You will need to get your hands on a duraspark II distributor, coil, and module...brand new these parts aren't too expensive at a junkyard they are even cheaper, the efi tfi distributor won't work.
You can use any intake designed for any carbed 351w after 69. I use the edelbrock performer intake part number 2181, I might suggest you look into a weiand stealth for the 351w. A 600 cfm carb is ideal for a street 351w engine. If your wanting stock intake and carb then again you can use anything from 70 up.
You will need to get an electric fuel pump for carbs, unless you wanna change the serpentine belt system and timing cover just to have a mechanical fuel pump boss. There are a few reasonably priced electric pumps for carb applications.
