28 Spline- or-31

Hello. Can anyone tell me what I have in a 1977 ford ranchero. It has a 400 and C6. Need to know if the axels are 28 or 31 spline... Thanks

28 spline.

Only engine/car 31 spline rears were in the 60's/early 70's cars.

That depended on what axle was ordered with the truck, not the engine.

you can tell by looking at the center hub of the axle. if it has three dots in a row it's a 31 spline. if it has a bathtub shape it's 28.
