center bearing?
My 2001-cc,4x4,single rear wheel is making a funny noise. When im next to a guard rail or fence doing 20mph or more i can hear a rubbing noise.Kinda sounds like im riding the brakes.Brakes are fine by the way.I wa thinking it could be the center bearing.Anyone else had trouble with the center bearing?Ive got 54,000mi.

My 99' F-350 SC 9'dump had a bad u-joint with about 50k miles, I wondered the same thing about the center carrier bearing,,took the whole setup (drive shaft and center carrier) to a truck driveshaft shop,,they replaced u-joint, center carrier bearing was ok, and slip splines were ok too, just greased splines good, they added greasable u- joints, and balanced the shaft,,,like $ 275.00 seemed good afterthat,,,,,well then I traded the truck,,,LOL,,,,,,,Later,,,,,,,,Mark

nicdoni: Did you ever resolve your rubbing noise? I have a similar noise in my 2000 F250 4X4 crew at 90k. I have been told by one mechanic that the noise is comming from the transfer case ($1400 for a reman). I can very well imagine the noise initiating in the carrier bearing and radiating to the transfer case.
