I'd like to get a bug deflector and some rain shields for my truck. Wondering what brands everyone has gone with. I just went to a local truck accessories place and the rep. told me he likes only the Driver Design brand for a bug deflector on the 04' F-150's. It looked kind of flimsy to me, like it might fold back and rub the paint at highway speeds. It mounted in between the grill and hood using the factory bolt holes. Has anyone tried this brand? As for the rain gaurds, I have no idea what to get as I've never had them on a vehicle before. One thing I think I don't want is the tape mounted kind. The truck place had Weathertech brand but Weatherteck pulled their rain shields(Only for the new F-150's) as they are not working properly. The rep. told me when the weathertech rain shields first came out they worked great, then all of a sudden they started to not work. Rep. said he thinks Ford may have changed something with the rubber where the window rolls up into. He also said weathertech is working on it. Appreciate any info....thanks..
I have a Stampede Bugguard and Ventvisor rain shields on mine. I have noticed with my bugguard that it sometimes causes my passenger side wiiper to chatter from the air turbulence. It is sturdy, though, and with the Audiophile turned up, I hardly notice the chatter. The Ventvisors I got are the in channel kind. No tape and they work great.
I like the Ford bugshield with the "F-150" etched into it. It looks great. Not sure how they mount though. I'm going to be looking into that very soon since my truck was just ordered.
I have a shield from EGR. You have to take the whole grill assembly off to mount it. It gets sandwiched behind the grill and the hood. And then there is helper clips that clip on to the hood toward the outside. It is very sturdy and will never come in contact with the hood. There is zero movement even when passing a semi the other direction. Take a look at my gallery for pictures of it.
P.S.
I’m not sure I like the flames. I got it because I’m a fireman.
Thanks Froman. I don't care for the flames either, but if your a fireman that makes it cool!! I like your white truck. I originally wanted a white one but my first ever new vehicle was a white truck back in 94'. My 04' is only my second new vehicle so I went with a different color. I sure do like white tho! Anyway, how do those helper clips attach to the truck? I looked at your pics but you cannot tell how they attach to the truck....
Wow, thanks for the quick response and pics! Looks like the clips just 'slip' over the hood. How is the paint protected where the clips slip on? Looks like the clips could hurt the paint over time. Thanks again for your help..
It came with some thick clear plastic that you stick where the clips go. I also use some very thin foam rubber on the inside of the clip for added protection. I was also concerned about the paint, so I make it a point to check the clip, plastic tape area every so often. I can’t see the shield vibrate at all, at any speed. So I don’t think it’s going to rub thought the plastic or that it is going to be a problem at all.
I’m at work and bored, can you tell? At least I’m making double bucks!!!
I would go with the factory low profile bug shield because it would be covered by ford if it cause any problems with your truck. Also use the weather tech window shields.I can still buy them at many places.I am not sure why you was told they were off the market.
Hmmmmmm....don't know why the rep. said this. Makes no sense from his point(or my point for that matter) of view unless it's true. He said they stopped selling them becuase of the problems they started having with them. He also said Weathertech KNOWS of the problem and is working on it. Just because you can still buy them does not mean they will fit and work properly....
