Restoring old paint: 71 f100
If you look in my gallery, you'll see that the body is in decent shape. I tried some "Polishing Compound" on the side by the door and it looked GREAT!!
Here's my problem, the paint on all sides look fine but the hood & top have some surface rust. (last pic in gallery) How can I get rid of the rust so it'll look decent?
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advanced.

Nice looking rig. Wouldn't take too much work to get it looking sharp.
There is no way to get rid of the rust and have the rig appear the same. In other words, there is no magic compound that will remove the rust and return the color.
If my funds were limited but I wanted that rust gone, I would probably do the following...
Wash with Dawn dishwashing soap. Finish cleaning by using a degreaser.
Sand the rust with 100 grit until I had clean metal. Then I would scuff the remaining top and hood with 220 grit, making sure the stripped areas were feathered into the remaining paint.
Treat the bare metal with a rust converter (i.e. Metal Ready, Rust Mort, Picklex, & etc.). This will take care of any remaining micro-rust.
Cover the bare metal with Zero Rust (ZR).
Mask the hood and top.
Paint the hood and top with two coats of ZR.
ZR is cheap ($50/gallon), is available in rattle can, and will stop rust dead. It dries to a semi-gloss and after exposure to the sun, will turn flat. I did a buddies pickup one time with black ZR. It ended up looking like a old time hot rod paint job. He like the affect so well, he never got it painted.
