Well I'm excited and a litte apprehensive. I just (I mean five minutes ago) won an auction for a pop up camper! I'll be going down to Mt. Airy NC sometime this week to pick it up. While I've done quite a bit of trading on ebay, this is the single most expensive thing I have ever bought sight unseen. I did have some real good emails with the seller, however, and got a good feeling for the person and the condition of the camper. I'll find out in a few days if I can trust my instincts. If all goes expected, I'll be at Sherando Lake next weekend with the family, and the end of one joyous chapter in my life (the sale of my '79 F150) will have enabled the start of another (family camping). Wish me luck!
It is the city that the Andy Griffith show was based on. I beleive he still lives in that area.
While your there do some site seeing. Downtown is somewhat historic to the show.
They have the barber shop, diner, & they even have that old Ford Sqaud car.
Wow you guys are getting in my neck of the woods, geez i didnt think any one on here who knew about my hick town thats kinda cool
I used to live in Mooresville. A suburb or Charlotte. I went up to Mt. Airy almost every weekend in the tens years I lived there. I always detoured down that way on my way home from Fancy Gap. I had to get my lottery tickets.
It is a Rockwood. An older model, (83), but for my price range (under $1200) I expected that. I just wanted something that was watertight, roadworthy and ready to camp, without me having to do a lot of fixup or repair to get it usable. You can check it out here , and there were links to more photos but those are no longer up on ebay. I know, I probably paid way to much for what I got, but I searched high and low for something locally but It was always the same story- either it was a newer model that someone wanted 3 times my budget or it was within my budget but was totally trashed and needed all new canvas, floor and/or frame. Soooo... in a few days I'll be either pleasantly surprised or will have learned a great life's lesson (kinda like my first car, but that is a whole nother story )
Had a rockwood for a long time... about that vintage too...
added an a/c on the top, but not big enough to keep up with the heat so once "my system" required more creature comforts moved on !
