I have a problem that's driving me crazy, hope someone can help. I have a 1993 F-150 with a 5.8 liter. The truck has 97,000 miles and was at idle and stalled like out of gas, restated but ran rough and stalled again. I put 10 gallons of gas in the tank, took off the fuel line and plenty of fuel when cranked, have good spark and nothing but an occastional hit. Could it have jumped time at a idle or could some kind of a fuel injector relay or something have gone out?
Check for computer codes? That's always the best place to start on an efi engine.
Check fuel preasure at the fuel rail. "Plenty of gas when cranking" doesn't necessarily mean the preasure is high enough. And if it's too high, you could be flooding it.
Did you remove the line before or after the fuel filter? Could be a restriction in the fuel filter?
I had a no-start on my '86 that ended up being the EGR valve. It was running great when I parked it. Next mourning nothing.
Check your inertia switch (driverside under dash) also check your fuel pressure and the fuel filter, and if you have dual tanks make sure they are switching properly. Start simple- hope it has not jumped- because my F-250 and b/f F-150 have been doing the exact same thing recently. Try sea foam to clean fuel system out good. Above all try not to think of the timing being it.
If it was the inertia switch he wouldn't be getting any gas or any power to the fuel pump(s). To rule out timing, pull the spout connector and hook up a timing light and check timing while someone else cranks it over. It won't be exact since it's cold but it should be close. If it's a strong spark(blue not yellow) and you have proper fuel pressure then have the TFI module tested.
could be clogged fuel filter, had a similiar problem on one. Fuel pressure was fine, but no volume. If it has been a while since it was replaced, it wouldn't hurt to replace it anyway.
I appriciate all the come backs. RLKBOB surprised I got a response from someone so close. I grew up in Dundee and my truck is in Milan. I changed the fuel filter. checked the trouble codes and the only code was the EGR valve I asked a mechanic and he assured me that wasn't it I was recieveing that code because the truck has no catalyic converter. I pulled the wiring harness off a couple fuel injectors and put a test light on them and there getting juice. Can NAPA check the TFI module or do I have to take it to a dealer? Thanks again

Free2Roam, if your TFI ignition module was bad you wouldn't get spark. Have you checked the timing per RLKBOB's post? Have you tested the fuel pressure at the fuel rail schrader valve per Cloim's reply? Finally, I think your your mechanic is all wet. I don't see how the presence or absence of a cat would cause an EGR code. That is "downstream" from the entire EGR system.
Sounds like a weak fuel pump to me. If you spray a shot of ether in the throttle body (or air intake) and it fires up like a champ momentarily, then dies again, you've got a fuel problem. Since you know the filter is good and the injectors test good and you're getting fuel out of the line at the connection to the fuel rail (I'm assuming that's where you disconnected to check.) then I'm led to think either the fuel pump is weak or the pressure regulator has gone bad.
Hey, good luck, and let us know what it turned out to be. That way we all learn from YOU.
